Nearly 14 years after the release of the most recent entry in the franchise comes news that production on the sequel has wrapped.

After many years in the making, 'Indiana Jones 5' has finally wrapped filming. Starring Harrison Ford as the titular character who first appeared in George Lucas' 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' in 1981, the fifth Indy adventure currently has no official title or any plot details attached to it.

Expected to be one of 2023's big summer blockbuster releases, the news from the set of Disney's tentpole action/adventure comes courtesy of the film's director James Mangold and producer Frank Marshall. Mangold tweeted a picture from the first 'Indy' film from the '80s, writing: "And so begins the first day after the storm.." while Marshall tweeted "That's a wrap!!!" alongside a picture of a baseball cap.

With 'Indiana Jones' being such a beloved and widely cherished Disney franchise, it will be exciting to see if this film will serve as a "passing of the torch" so to speak. There's quite an impressive cast joining the fifth entry, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge ('Fleabag'), Mads Mikkelsen ('Casino Royale'), Antonio Banderas ('The Mask of Zorro'), Thomas Kretschmann ('King Kong'), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Shaunette Renée Wilson ('Black Panther') and Toby Jones ('Captain America: The First Avenger') all part of the ensemble.

Shia LaBeouf, who played Mutt Williams in 2008's 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull', will not be reprising his role as Indiana’s son with Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen). It's also unclear if Marion will appear in the film, although the character was not originally attached.

'Indy 5' was initially due for release in July of this year, but setbacks including 79-year-old Ford getting injured on set pushed the film into next year. Steven Spielberg was originally lined up to direct before he stepped down to pass the baton onto Mangold in 2020.

'Indiana Jones 5' hits cinemas on June 30, 2023.
