Fans of the 'Jurassic Park' (aka 'Jurassic World') franchise will have to wait a bit longer for its latest installment.

'Jurassic World Dominion' has been postponed by a full year.

The follow-up to 2018's 'Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom' was due to hit cinemas on June 11, 2021.

Its new release date, set by Universal Pictures, is June 10, 2022.

Filming for the action-adventure feature began in February 2020 with franchise stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum all returning.

It was forced to halt when the pandemic hit.

Since then, shooting has resumed.

Production recommenced in July with 'Jurassic World Dominion' sitting along the likes of 'Mission Impossible 7' and the 'Avatar' sequels as one of the first major Hollywood projects to get the cameras rolling again.

According to reports, the studio took intense measures to keep the set safe from coronavirus.

This included frequent testing, temperature checks and isolating the cast and key crew at a resort hotel.

It is unknown whether filming has wrapped or not.

Director Colin Trevorrow, who also helmed 2015's 'Jurassic World', announced the new release date via Twitter.

He shared a poster of the movie and wrote: "For the past three months, I've worked with an extraordinary cast and crew on a film we can't wait to share with the world.

"Even though we'll have to wait a bit longer, it will all be worth it. Let's stay healthy and take care of each other until then."

The news comes after it emerged that such major titles as 'The Batman' and 'Dune' have also had their release dates postponed.

The likes of 'No Time to Die' and 'Black Widow' will also hit cinemas later than expected.
