It turns out it's not just us who completely blanks on names.

A very young Keira Knightley was cast in one of her first movie roles as Sabé, one of the Queen Amidala's handmaidens in 'Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace'. Her character later becomes a decoy for the Queen, now called Padmé (and played by Natalie Portman), so as to protect the young monarch's life. And Knightley has forgotten all of that, it turns out.

In a recent interview, when the guts of a question about her early film role were being asked about, Knightley cut across the journalist, asking: "Wait a minute… who did I play? Was I not Padme?"

The actress then clarified why she can't remember the ins and outs of her character: "Do you know, I saw the film once when… I think I was 12 when I did it, and I saw it the year after, and I’ve never seen it again. OK, so I was Sabé and I didn’t die."

The interview then went from bad to worse - or more enjoyable perhaps, because of all of the confusion - when the journalist finally managed to finish her question, which asked what the actress thinks her character might have been up to all these years later: "I hope she lived a long and happy life... somewhere on a planet far, far away!"

She was then asked if she'd ever return to the character, if there had ever been talks of her reprising the role... you can imagine her response was quite tongue in cheek: "Reprising the character I can't even remember the name of? Ah no, there hasn't [been talks]. There should be though, I'm sure that her life has been long and interesting.

"But no, there's been no discussion about... wait, what was her name again? Sabé? No, there's been no discussion!"

The recent lapse in memory for Knightley can, of course, be forgiven. The actress was very young at the time, and it was filmed over 20 years ago. The incident reminds us of that time Gwyneth Paltrow forgot that she appeared in 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' within the shared Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And just in case you too have forgotten about Keira Knightley in 'Star Wars', here's a compilation of her appearances throughout 'The Phantom Menace'.
