Irish-backed movie 'The Favourite' is a period comedy drama that tells the story of a three-way lesbian relationship between Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) and cousins Abigail Hill and Sarah Hill, Duchess of Marlborough in the 18th century.

It's directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, the man who brought us 'The Lobster' and 'The Killing of a Sacred Deer', and also stars Emma Stone and Rachel Weisz. You can read our review here.

There were plenty of sex scenes to be filmed and Olivia Colman came up with a devious plan to shock co-star Stone when the cameras were rolling:

"Emma Stone was worried about me because she had to touch me intimately under the sheets. So, I put a big wet sponge there as a barrier. She was going up my leg and her face was a picture when she reached it!"

Colman was talking on the New Year's Eve special of The Graham Norton Show to promote 'The Favourite' and her upcoming appearance as Queen Elizabeth II in the new series of 'The Crown' on Netflix. She also revealed that it took her a while to stop trying to do an impression of Claire Foy in the role.

You can watch the entire interview on The Graham Norton Show when it airs on BBC1 at 10.40pm on December 31st. 'The Favourite' hits Irish cinemas on January 1st, 2019.
