One of the most talented young women currently headlining films, Saoirse Ronan is set to play the title role in the period drama Mary Queen Of Scots say Deadline.com.

Mary had somewhat of an eventful existence, having become Queen of Scotland at the ripe old age of 1. But she made the mistake of marrying her cousin - a liaison that ended in murder. After some other malarkey went down (her marrying the man who murdered her cousin/husband), Mary ended up in England really pissing off her other cuz, Queen Elizabeth, and promptly tried  to have her assassinated. It's coming from the same company, Working Title, who made Elizabeth - which also featured Mary Queen of Scots in the guise of Samantha Morton. Michael Hirst, who created the Irish shot Showtime series, The Tudors, has written the script but no director is yet attached.

Ronan has a bunch of high profile roles on her slate; Stephanie Meyer's Twilight follow up, The Host and Neil Jordan's Byzantium amongst them.
