One of the writers behind the recent hit 'Scream' film wants to take a stab at adapting another classic horror franchise.

Guy Busick gave an interview with Filifan and was asked what franchise he'd like to tackle next.

The writer said he would like to write a film in either of the 'Friday The 13th" or a 'Nightmare On Elm Street' franchises.

"In the future, I would like to write new versions of A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday The 13th," adding that he would "like to write original films."

Busick is a collaborator of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who make up the Radio Silence collective of filmmakers.

Prior to this year's 'Scream' movie, the trio had previously worked together on the 2019 film 'Ready Or Not', and Busick has been tapped to write a new film for the directors entitled 'Reunion'.

Despite films like 'Halloween' and 'Child's Play' receiving big-budget reboots, the 'Friday' and 'Nightmare' movies have remained dormant for over a decade.

Both franchises received the reboot treatment in 2009 and 2010 respectively under Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes studios and were hits upon release, but failed to garner fan or critical acclaim.

2009's 'Friday The 13th' saw 'Supernatural' star Jared Padalecki face off against a new version of Jason, while the 2010 remake of 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' enlisted veteran music video director Samuel Bayer to make a darker, joke-free version of Freddy Krueger's origin story.

Neither film is particularly well-liked within the horror community, and demand for a reboot is high in both camps.

There is of course a common thread between 'Scream' and the 'Nightmare On Elm Street' in the form of director Wes Craven, who directed films in both franchises.

The latest 'Scream' film features numerous tributes to Craven in the film, including a title card dedicated to him at the start of the end credits.

With the makers of the new 'Scream' film on the record as Craven fans, perhaps they can take a stab (pun intended) at the franchise?

News of a 'Friday The 13th' reboot was floated in 2018, with basketball star LeBron James in talks to produce the film in the wake of the success of 'Halloween', but nothing has come of the film since then.

Busick is currently writing the latest entry in the 'Final Destination' series, with the film being produced by Jon Watts, the director behind the Tom Holland series of 'Spider-Man' films.
