We admire Ol Parker’s ambition.

Forget all those memes you saw a few weeks ago, THIS must be the ambitious crossover ever. ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ director Ol Parker has raised a few eyebrows by mentioning his movie in the same breath as Francis Ford Coppola’s 1974 gangster classic starring Al Pacino and Robert de Niro.

"Obviously no one's going to be comparing the two in the great canon of film, but that was very much the template," he told Total Film about his writing process.

"It's a beautiful idea that you can jump backwards and forwards and learn more about the present from the past," he said.

Maybe we’re being a little unfair to the British director as it sounds like he’s only using the technique that Coppola used to jump between time periods. It doesn’t sound like there’s going to be any horses heads left in anyone’s bed. Although that would be hilarious.

Excitement is building for Parker’s sequel which will be released ten years after the original. He has assembled a cast that includes the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried and Andy Garcia.
