Hide your crucifixes and get the mushy green peas ready - there's another 'Exorcist' movie on the way.

It's been reported that David Gordon Green, the director of the 2018 reboot / sequel 'Halloween', is now working on a similar effort for William Peter Blatty and William Friedkin's 1973 horror spectacular.

Details are light, but it's understood that Blumhouse, the production house behind 'Halloween', 'The Conjuring', 'Insidious', and a few other horror franchises, are behind this along with Morgan Creek Productions.

All told, there are five 'Exorcist' movies and a short-lived TV series, but none have come close to even reaching let alone surpassing the original. Indeed, 'The Exorcist' was the highest-grossing R-rated horror movie for decades until very recently when 'It' took the top prize. 'The Exorcist' was also nominated for 10 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for William Friedkin.

'The Exorcist II: Heretic', meanwhile, is often considered as one of the worst sequels ever made, and was described by Friedkin as "the worst piece of crap I've ever seen." Three other movies followed, one of which was basically a retooling / re-edit of the other because the studio thought it wasn't good enough. Yeah.

At any rate, this latest sequel is still a long way off scuttling down the stairs upside down, and given the torturous history that 'The Exorcist' has, don't be surprised if this gets shelved at some point.
