Released 25 years ago this year, 'Trainspotting' is both one of Ewan McGregor and Danny Boyle's defining works.

Based on the novel by Irvine Welsh, it tells the story of a group of heroin addicts in Edinburgh as one of them - Renton, played by McGregor - negotiates numerous attempt to rid himself of drug use and reenter society, whatever that may be.

Sharply directed and with John Hodges' clever adaptation of Welsh's source novel, 'Trainspotting' was a smash-hit and became the most profitable movie of 1996. It wasn't just the movie that was a huge success either. The soundtrack was a pop-culture phenomenon and is regularly cited as one of the greatest soundtracks ever assembled.

Featuring tracks from Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Underworld, New Order, Leftfield, and Primal Scream, the soundtrack went triple platinum in the UK and gold in the US.
