We've stopped being surprised by how well Britpop sensation Adele is doing at this stage, there's just no stopping her. But now, she's even gone an outdone Michael Jackson himself! It has been reported today that sales of Adele's '21' have now officially overtaken Michael Jackson's seminal album 'Bad' in the UK.
The 23 year old singer, who took home two Brit Awards last week, including Best Album for '21', not to mention her award for Best Album at The Grammys, is now the proud title holder of the eighth biggest selling album of all time in Britain, with current sales standing at a staggering 4.02 million.
So she's positioned herself firmly ahead of the late MJ, but how much further can she go? The sky is the limit for Adele it seems. It might not be long before she holds the title of the 5th most popular album of all time. All she'll need to do is shift another 150,000 copies of 21 and she'll skip right past Dire Straits' 'Brothers In Arms' and Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side Of The Moon', which are the sixth and seventh on the UK's list of the biggest sellers of all-time.
The top five selling albums of all time in the UK have remained at a standstill for quite some time. Queen's 'Greatest Hits' still holds the position of Number One with sales of 5.83 million, with The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band' in second place on 5.04 million. Abba's 'Gold' is third, Oasis' '(What's The Story) Morning Glory)' comes in at number 4 while Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' is fifth.
After all that throat surgery she's gone through recently, we thought Adele was taking a break from the music. Not only has she needed to rest up but she also spoke of needing time to concentrate on her relationship. However with this news on her plate it seems she's brushing off her earlier statements and heading straight back to the studio to begin work on her folow up to 21.
We can't wait to hear what she has in store.
