Catherine Tate is back on the scene this year, and here's our first look at her upcoming prison comedy series on Netflix.

'Hard Cell' will see the British Comedy Award winner and BAFTA nominee return to our screens in a new sitcom following the daily happenings of larger than life colleagues and inmates in a fictional women's prison named HMP Woldsley.

Tate has written and created the series, and as you would expect, she also plays multiple characters seen on screen. From Laura, the Governor of the prison, to Big Viv, a "psychopath" who's serving life in the clanger, and Marco, a prison guard from Essex, the trailer features a number of other new characters concocted for the series.

Set over a six-week period, the inmates will rehearse a musical directed by ex-Eastender’s star Cheryl Fergison. As the oddball collection of women begin to find their voices, and speak documentary-style to camera throughout the process, will they be able to pull off a theatrical masterpiece by the end of the season?

Here's the trailer.

Tate's character Nan, who originally appeared in her '00s sketch series 'The Catherine Tate Show', starred in her own solo theatrical outing earlier this month. 'The Nan Movie' debuted in cinemas to overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, so let's hope 'Hard Cell' fares better.

All six episodes of 'Hard Cell' hit Netflix on Tuesday, April 12.
