New comedy ahoy! HBO have served up the first trailer for their new piratical comedy 'Our Flag Means Death'.

Leading the crew is Rhys Darby (Flight of the Conchords), playing Stede Bonnet. History tells us that Bonett was an aristocrat who gave up his pampered existence for a life on the sea in the 18th century.

In the show, Bonnet has rounded up a ragtag crew already. Among those following him on the ship are Game of Thrones alumni Kristian Nairn and Joel Fry, Rory Kinnear ('No Time to Die') and Ewen Bremner ('Trainspotting'). Leslie Jones ('Ghostbusters') and Fred Armisan (SNL) also star.

Teased in the trailer is the much-feared Blackbeard, who will be played by Taika Waititi himself. Waititi also directed the first episode and serves as executive producer. The Kiwi is working on numerous other projects at the moment, including 'The Incal' and a new addition to the 'Star Wars' franchise.

Creator of the show David Jenkins said of Bonnet, "This guy had one of the world's great, colourful midlife crises. That's a great way into a show in any genre, but to mix that with pirates, I was like, 'Oh, this is fantastic.'"

Darby, who has been friends with fellow New Zealander Waititi for years said, "I hadn't really acted alongside him at all. So when he came aboard as [Blackbeard], all hell broke loose because no one's telling him what to do. Now [we're co-stars] and he's not capable of telling me what to do!"

'Our Flag Means Death' premieres on HBO Max later this year. Watch the first teaser below.
