An 87-year-old woman in China was diagnosed with a rare condition after a mysterious horn started growing out of her head and reached 13cm in length.

The cone-shaped horn began life as a dark mole but grew significantly over the last eight years before cracking and a horn sprouted out.

The woman's son told People's Daily China: 'We went to the hospital and the doctors couldn’t diagnose the growth. My mother doesn’t like going to the hospital because she thinks that she won’t be able to come back home if she goes.'

The condition is known as a 'cutaneous horn'. which is a growth composed of keratin (the same protein that makes up hair and fingernails) and while not immediately life-threatening, the growth is less than desirable.
