A meteor lit up the sky over St. Louis, Missouri, yesterday evening. Some were lucky enough to capture it on camera.

Several locals reported seeing a flash in the sky over the city and hearing a loud boom. STL County scanner confirmed that it was indeed a meteor and that it landed in the St. Charles County area.

Many between Troy and St. Peters witnessed the event and some filmed it.

Tweeter David Vergel caught the moment on his EarthCam camera.

Another tweeter, Tom Stolze, also managed to get footage of it flying through the sky.

Others caught the moment on their doorbell cameras.

Meteors can travel at over 100,000mph. They typically occur at altitudes from 76 to 100 km.
