It's been less than a week since the Beeb pulled the plug on Being Human, and now we're hearing that their newsroom drama The Hour will not be returning for a third series. Seems like they're having a bit of a spring clean ahead of their move from television centre!

Broadcast reports that BBC Two have axed the show, which featured The Wire star Dominic West (explains why he's heading off with Helena Bonham Carter), Skyfall's Ben Whishaw and Atonement star Romola Garai.

A spokesperson for the BBC said it had been tough to make the decision to cut the relatively popular drama: "We loved the show but have to make hard choices to bring new shows through." In all fairness, The Hour hadn't exactly been attracting a huge audience (In fact series one opened with 2.89 million whilse series two premiered with just 1.68million - that's still half the population of Ireland, give or take a few, mind you).

Here's hoping they don't get carried away with themselves and cancel any more decent shows. Sure aren't there plenty they could actually be doing away with...
