True crime aficionados may recall 'The Staircase' debuting on Netflix back in 2018.
They play husband and wife Michael and Kathleen Peterson. The two actors embrace in a first image for the series released by HBO.
They host a dinner party in the second image released by the network.
Peterson, a novelist from Durham, N.C., was convicted in 2003 of murdering his wife after she was found dead at the bottom of the staircase in their home.
He claimed she fell down the stairs and died. However police suspected him of bludgeoning her to death and staging the scene to cover his tracks.
In 2017, the conviction was reduced to involuntary manslaughter after Peterson submitted an Alford plea.
'The Staircase' docuseries from writer-director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade originally aired in 2005.
Years later, Jean-Xavier de Lestrade updated it with new information. Then Netflix released it as a series with three additional episodes in 2018.
Michael Stuhlbarg, Juliette Binoche, Dane DeHaan, Olivia DeJonge, Rosemarie DeWitt, Tim Guinee, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sophie Turner, Vincent Vermignon, Odessa Young, and Parker Posey co-star in the HBO adaptation.
'The Staircase' is written and executive produced by showrunners Antonio Campos ('Afterschool') and Maggie Cohn ('Narcos: Mexico').
It will stream on HBO Max in the US this spring. A release date for Ireland and the UK is TBC.
