Cruel Intentions is the latest in a string of '90s and '00s films to be regurgitated for basic cable TV in America, but now it appears that's no longer the case.

A report by Deadline has confirmed that the planned sequel-of-sorts to 1999's Cruel Intentions is now deader than Ryan Philippe's character, Sebastian Valmont. Or his performance, for that matter. ZING.

According to the report, Sarah Michelle Gellar - who was set to reprise her role as Kathryn Merteuil - will be freed from her contract for the show from next week, and that Sony Television are not renewing it. The plot of the new series was to follow Merteuil as she schemes her way into controlling Valmont International, "as well as the soul of Bash Casey, the son of her late brother, Sebastian Valmont, and Annette Hargrove."

It's, like, totally a bummer.
