Metallica will play Slane in 2019, according to reports that have surfaced in the Irish media this morning.

James Hetfield and co. will roll into Lord Henry Mountcharles' back garden next summer, according to the Irish Sun, although a date has yet TBC.

The metal legends will incorporate a Irish date on their forthcoming WorldWired tour into their schedule, having confirmed that they will tour Europe from May to September.

With Slane taking a break in 2018, Mountcharles had previously confirmed that Ireland's most famous outdoor gig would return next year, saying: "I put a lot of thought into this one — it’s a band that has been on the horizon for some time. I’m very excited about it if everything falls into place . . so are the band.”

Metallica have never played Slane before, but last played Dublin in 2009, when they sold out Marlay Park.

The concert will take place on the iconic grounds of Slane Castle, which is also home to a state-of-the-art Slane Irish Whiskey Distillery and Visitor Centre, sometime in summer of next year.
