One wouldn't have automatically thought that a tour by a band fronted by Macauley Culkin in which they remodel classic Velvet Underground songs to be about pizza wouldn't be going well, but apparently this is the case after two less-than-successful gigs in the UK.

A performance at Manchester's venue Zoo was halted after just a few songs when Culkin stormed off stage after fans insensitively heckled his kazoo solo. Granted, he and the rest of the band had been pelted with plastic beer glasses incessantly up until that point but apparently the lack of respect for Macauley's kazoo skills proved to be the final straw.

Culkin, ever the comeback kid, did return to the stage briefly but that was short-lived as fans soon invaded the stage, several of whom were removed from the venue by security.

It didn't get much better for the Home Alone star last night in Nottingham, either. Culkin and the rest of his pizza-loving band had pints of beer thrown over them and were subjected to booing.

In response to the beer throwing, Culkin told the crowd: "Why are you throwing those? I'd rather drink them!" His niceties soon gave way, though, and he stormed off stage after just fifteen minutes. We have no idea if he got to his kazoo solo but there is a good chance that might have just exacerbated things.

One attendee, quoted by the Nottingham Post, said: "It just sounds awful. I can't believe he is doing this. Why bother? It must go down well in America or something."

The Pizza Underground rework songs by the Velvet Underground as odes to their favourite food. Song titles include 'Cheese Days', 'Talk a Walk on the Wild Slice' and 'I'm Waiting For The Delivery Man'.

No Irish shows have been announced yet but we can but hope...
