The weekend is almost upon us, and maybe you're in search of something to soundtrack it – or perhaps you're just on the hunt for some new music.

Every Friday, we'll choose three great new release songs you should hear (from both Irish and international acts) point you in the direction of the bands or artists who created them, and send you on your merry way to investigate further.

Katy Perry - 'Cry About it Later'

It's a big week for Katy Perry; not only does she release her new album 'Smile' today, but she actually has something to smile about, considering she gave birth to her first child the other day. We're still making our mind up about the album, but this song is definitely a highlight with its moody 1980s club vibe.

Disclosure & Kelis – 'Watch Your Step'

It's the unexpected collaboration we didn't know we needed in our lives – but boy, are we glad this unlikely pairing happened. Disclosure's new album 'Energy' is released today and sees the Lawrence brothers team up with everyone from Slowthai to Kehlani – but we can't get enough of this zippy, upbeat, catchy-as-hell number for the dancefloor with Kelis.

Calvin Harris & The Weeknd – 'Over Now'

Another unlikely collaboration, but one that works brilliantly. To be fair, the Scottish DJ's contribution is a lot more subtle than some of his stuff has been in the past; this has Abel Tesfaye's fingerprints all over it, from his tender voice to his laidback emotional r'n'b style about the end of a relationship. Still, it's the perfect soundtrack for these lazy end-of-summer days, as well as its very cool video. Now all we need is some sunshine.
