It was a mixed bag at the North American box office this passing weekend, and last weeks champion, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, continued to rule the pack.

The extremely well reviewed blockbuster took a further $36 million in its second weekend, taking its tally to an impressive $134 million.

New opener The Purge: Anarchy was second, pulling in over $28 million. Not bad for a sequel that cost only $9 million to produce.

Elsewhere Sex Tape, the Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel starrer started strong, but faded as the weekend moved on. The comedy took a lower than expected $15 million in its first three days.

Next week the much buzzed about Marvel franchise starter, Guardians of the Galaxy opens. The James Gunn directed flick looks a right blast, we're looking forward to that one...
