It's one of the biggest problems when it comes to Netflix - deciding on something to watch when there's so much to choose from.

Well, you're in luck. We've done the hard work for you and picked out fifteen of the best films on Netflix right now. If you haven't watched any of these films, clear a couple of hours and make time because they're all worthy of it.

Here we go.

15. EVENT HORIZON

Sam Neill, who you'll know from Peaky Blinders and Jurassic Park, stars in this genuinely disturbing sci-fi horror about a spaceship that appears out of nowhere and carries with some unspeakable horrors. When a crew of astronauts is sent to investigate what happened to its crew, they too start to go mad. Gory, weird, but really good fun.

14. HARD EIGHT

Paul Thomas Anderson's first film has all the hallmarks of his later work, but it's still definitely worth a watch if you want to see really compelling acting. It's set in Vegas and follows an aging gambler (Phillip Baker Hall) who takes a young John C. Reilly under his wing and shows him the ways of the town. It's got flourishes of Boogie Nights, L.A. Confidential and a few other noir dramas, but it's quite unique on its own.

13. THE GIFT

Joel Edgerton wrote, directed and starred in this cool little thriller with Jason Bateman from Arrested Development. Playing a slightly off-kilter loner who comes back into the life of an old-school friend, it gets progressively worse for Bateman. You won't look at Joel Edgerton or Jason Bateman the same way again after seeing this.

12. THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

Wes Anderson's a director whom people either love or hate. With that in mind, if you were a fan of The Royal Tennenbaums, Rushmore and so on, you're in for a treat. Also, our own Saoirse Ronan's in there as well and you've got Jeff Goldblum hanging around as well.

11. ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ

If you can set aside all the crap Clint Eastwood's been spewing lately, this is a fantastic '70s crime drama about a hardened criminal (Eastwood) who sets himself the impossible task of escaping from Alcatraz Island once and for all. It's really underplayed by everyone and there's almost a quiet beauty to it, especially Eastwood who isn't doing his usual Dirty Harry / Man With No Name schtick.

10. THE DISH

This is a fantastic quirky comedy about a gigantic satellite dish that was set up in rural Australia to transmit the television signals from the first Moon landing in 1969. Starring Sam Neill and Patrick Warburton (Joe Swanson from Family Guy), it's a touching dramedy that's also got some lovely scenery of the Outback and great acting too.

9. RED ARMY

Together with Hoop Dreams, Red Army is easily one of the best sports documentaries ever made. In fact, you don't even need to be into sports or ice hockey to watch this. It's that good. It follows the USSR's ice hockey team through their incredible career and the insane lengths the KGB went to both control the team and win against their opponents at any cost. When you look at the Olympics currently happening right now, it puts it all into perspective.

8. LAYER CAKE

If you've ever wondered why Daniel Craig was selected to play James Bond, watch this. It's basically the interview for the role and you can see exactly why he was chosen for it. Directed by Matthew Vaughn and starring Sienna Miller and Ben Whishaw, it's a sexy crime thriller set in London about a drug dealer who's on his way out of retirement - but has that One Last Job to take care of. Great soundtrack, as well.

7. SUPER TROOPERS

For our money, one of the most underrated comedies ever made. A group of state troopers, fond of chasing each other down the highway and making teenagers eat bags of shrooms and marijuana, are forced to square off against their fellow officers for their right to patrol. Think Animal House mixed with Cops and you're on the right track.

6. BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA

John Carpenter's attempt at a comic-book movie before there was even such a thing might be a little dated in places, but it's still a cracking little adventure film with a great performance by Kurt Russell. A truck driver who thinks he's hot sh** gets pulled into a mystical world of, uh, well, dragons and stuff. It's weird. But funny. Just watch it, you won't regret it.

5. UNCLE BUCK

You've already seen Uncle Buck, right? This is more just to remind you that Uncle Buck is on Netflix. If you're reading this with someone who hasn't seen Uncle Buck, you know what to do.

4. THE FIRM

Need a good, solid, satisfying thriller? The Firm is all that and more. You've got Tom Cruise, the brilliant Gene Hackman, a bald Ed Harris and, for bonus points, Gary Busey in there as well. Also, keep an eye out for Holly Hunter as well. Brilliant film, doesn't get half the credit it deserves.

3. INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS

Arguably one of the greatest horror films ever made, Invasion Of The Body Snatchers really does get under your skin long after watching it. Chances are you've watched a film or TV show's that referenced it at some point.

2. THE PARALLAX VIEW

If you're on a conspiracy thriller buzz, The Parallax View makes for some excellent viewing. Warren Beatty stars as a hapless journalist who witness the assassination of a political candidate for office and is, slowly but surely, hunted by the very same people who killed him. Easily one of the best thrillers ever made.

1. YOUNG ADULT

In case you didn't know, Charlize Theron can be very, very, very funny when she wants to be. Sure, she did Arrested Development, but she can also do much more biting, sarcastic humour and Young Adult is the perfect example. Playing a washed-up author who returns to her small-town to right a few wrongs, the film goes in a few interesting places before it hits with you an emotional core that you're completely not expecting. Highly, highly recommended.
