Netflix's "twisted" spin-off series based on the (other) problem child of The Addams Family is set for release in the near future.

Ahead of its release later this year, our very first look at Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams has been unleashed by Netflix - and it's just enough of a tease to have us getting quietly excited for the series.

'Wednesday' will star 'Scream 5' and 'Yes Day' star Ortega in the title role of the deliciously unhinged and incredibly dark, creepy and kooky teenager, the oldest child of the iconic Addams Family.

Tim Burton of 'Beetlejuice' and 'Edward Scissorhands' fame is helming the eight-episode series as the director, based on the characters from the mind of Charles Addams. Christina Ricci, who joins the series in an undisclosed role, originally played the deranged child in both of the early '90s films.

Filling out the strong cast list for the Wednesday Addams project is 'Chicago' and 'Zorro' star Catherine Zeta-Jones, who will play the title character's delectably hideous mother, Morticia; 'Boogie Nights' and 'Narcos' actor Luis Guzmán will surely bring some over-enthusiastic and camp-ness to her father, Gomez. 'Game Of Thrones' and 'The Sandman' actor Gwendoline Christie also joins the cast in a supporting role as a character named Larissa Weems. Riki Lindhome ('Knives Out'), Jamie McShane ('Sons of Anarchy') and Percy Hynes White ('The Gifted') also join the cast.

Here's the teaser trailer *snap snap*.

The official synopsis from Netflix reads: The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

'Wednesday' is billed as "coming soon" to Netflix.
