Time to lose all hope in the future generations of humanity once again, as not only did two students decide to dress up as the Twin Towers under attack on 9/11, but the judges of the competition they entered decided the costume was the best and awarded them first place and £150 in cash. Classiness all round, no?

The two students from Chester in the UK dressed as the North Tower and the South Tower and included models of the hijacked planes as well as explosions and planes on their costumes and even tiny figures falling from the buildings. It actually baffles belief that they thought it was okay, but what's even more baffling is that one of the girls father is a pilot who was flying for US airline United during the terrorist attacks in 2001.

When informed of the costume, he said he'd be 'having a little chat' with his 19-year-old daughter.

When asked by The Sun why they dressed that way, the two said apologised 'if any offence was caused' and that 'the idea was to depict a modern-day horror that happened in our lifetime and was not intended as a joke.'

To be fair, they're probably going to have to spend that money on disguising themselves for the next while, considering the amount of hate that's going to come their way. And the fact that this story will Google-haunt their names for the rest of their lives is probably punishment enough.
