There's still no airdate as yet, but Season 2 of True Detective is shaping up to be the TV event of 2015.

What with our own Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Taylor Kitsch and Rachel McAdams set in the lead roles, the supporting cast is starting to fill out.

True Blood's Riley Smith, who had a big enough role in the final season of the HBO series, will be joining True Detective's second season as Rachel McAdams on-screen boyfriend.

It's not known as yet how many episodes he'll appear and what he's doing, simply that he's described as a "boyish Sheriff's deputy" - make of that what you will.

True Detective is expected to air on Sky Atlantic sometime in 2015.
